LIFE is a concept album conceived and performed by the danish songwriter and guitarist MIchael Skotte, portraying the life of a human being from birth to passing and beyond.
Atlas (our main character/narrator of our story) is falling through time and space. When he comes to, he finds himself in a birth room in a hospital. A woman is giving birth to a child. He has never seen the woman before in his life, yet he KNOWS she’s his wife, and she’s giving birth to their first child. It’s a girl. They give her the name Iris.
This story is the tale of Iris’ life, seen through the eyes of her father Atlas.
We follow her from birth through a happy childhood, into a troubled teenage life, a confused beginning of her adult life, a more stable periode where she settles down, gets married and have children, into a midlife crisis, followed by a period of calm, enlightenment and acceptance.
She then grows old, and eventually dies. Atlas is there through it all, and when Iris dies , he falls through time and space again, and returns to where he once came from.

About the characters :
Atlas
In Greek mythology, Atlas is a Titan condemned to hold up the heavens or sky for eternity after the Titanomachy. Atlas also plays a role in the myths of two of the greatest Greek heroes: Heracles (Hercules in Roman mythology) and Perseus. According to the ancient Greek poet Hesiod, Atlas stood at the ends of the earth in the extreme west. Later, he became commonly identified with the Atlas Mountains in northwest Africa and was said to be the first King of Mauretania (modern-day Morocco and west Algeria, not to be confused with the modern-day country of Mauritania). Atlas was said to have been skilled in philosophy, mathematics, and astronomy. In antiquity, he was credited with inventing the first celestial sphere. In some texts, he is even credited with the invention of astronomy itself.
Atlas was the son of the Titan Iapetus and the Oceanid Asiaor Clymene. He was a brother of Epimetheus and Prometheus. He had many children, mostly daughters, the Hesperides, the Hyades, the Pleiades, and the nymph Calypso who lived on the island Ogygia.
Iris
In ancient Greek religion and mythology, Iris is a daughter of the gods Thaumas and Electra, the personification of the rainbow and messenger of the gods, a servant to the Olympians and especially Queen Hera.
